Studies

Randomized trial of Ivermectin/Albendazole vs. Ivermectin Alone

#1 Comparison of Ivermectin Alone with Albendazole plus Ivermectin in their Efficacy Against Onchoceriasis

Study Site: Adansi South

This clinical trial will compare treatment with Ivermectin combined with Albendazole to Ivermectin alone for onchocerciasis. Enrollment was completed in early 2013. The study is now in the third and final year. Nodulectomies, to assess O. volvulus adult worm embryogenesis and viability will be performed at 36 months (Early 2016).

#2 Comparison of Ivermectin Alone with Albendazole plus Ivermectin in their Efficacy Against Onchoceriasis in the Volta Region

Study Site: Nkwanta

Unlike the study site in Adansi South, this site has had little or no prior Ivermectin treatment and heavier infection burdens. The second study site will increase our chances of obtaining a conclusive answer to the research question.
